A clear first message helps a mobile tyre team understand the job before discussing attendance. For a lorry or trailer, the exact position, vehicle and tyre specification matter as much as the word “puncture”. You do not need every detail before calling: send what you know safely.
Start with your location
Give a postcode or depot address, road name and junction, and the direction of travel. At a large yard, include the gate, bay or loading area. On an unfamiliar road, a live WhatsApp location can help. Explain whether the vehicle is in a safe place for a service unit and whether access is restricted.
Identify the vehicle and wheel
Send the registration and say whether the affected wheel is on a rigid lorry, tractor unit, trailer or other commercial vehicle. Wheel position matters: front steering axle, drive axle and trailer positions may call for different tyre specifications. If you are unsure, describe it in plain language.
Describe the tyre and damage
Read the size from the sidewall only if you can approach safely. Tell us whether the tyre has gone flat slowly, lost pressure suddenly, burst, or suffered visible sidewall damage. Mention if the vehicle has been driven after the tyre went down. A tyre that has run flat can have hidden damage, so an external view alone cannot guarantee it can be repaired.
Photos are useful, safety is more useful
A broad view of the vehicle and a close-up of the sidewall markings may help identify the tyre. Never enter a live traffic lane, squeeze between the vehicle and passing traffic or take a photo from an exposed position. If you cannot safely see the size, say so; the team can discuss other ways to identify it.
A message you can copy
“HGV tyre help needed. Location: [postcode, road and junction or live link]. Vehicle: [registration and lorry/trailer type]. Affected wheel: [position]. Tyre size: [if known]. Problem: [what happened]. Vehicle is [safely parked / needs traffic management].”
